CARSTEN SANDER I TO SURFACE
FEB - MAR 2010
Like almost no other, Sander manages to lift his models – often well-known personalities from the worlds of film, television, fashion, music and business – to a fantastic, imaginative realm. Subsumed almost completely, with hardly a distinguishable ego of their own, they appear to us as both familiar faces and otherworldly, fairytale-like metamorphoses. Be it comedian Bernhard Hoecker as a medieval knight, Anke Engelke as a mustachioed dandy, actor Rufus Beck as a creature of legend or cult-barkeeper Charles Schumann as a lonely sailor: Sander invents worlds of his own with empathy and flair, quotes film and draws recourse to art history, always in the service of drawing the unseen to light. more

MEGAN OLSON I BEYOND THE CHAINS OF ILLUSION9. JAN - 28.

MEIKE ZOPF I ZWEI SONNEN
JULY 11 - SEPT 22, 2009
Meike Zopf's mysteriously beautiful, complex paintings seduce as multi-layered contradictions blend and merge on a number of levels: abstract and figurative, illustrative lightness mixed with painterly concentration, the tender and the rugged. New, strange worlds emerge from a mixture of longing and the everyday, surrealism and the real as the foreign become one. more

ABSTRAKTE WELTEN - SAM FRANCIS I CHRISTIAN AWE
MAY 2 - JULY 8, 2009
“Abstract Worlds” – Sam Francis’ and Christian Awe’s works are best described as dynamic picture worlds of glowing color. Both artists play with the gestural motif; their works are intensive, expressive and give the impression of living, breathing surface. more
